PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
ARCHITECTURE AND DEVELOPMENT
Alison received a Masters in Architecture from the University of Colorado in 1975, and has been a registered architect in California since 1983. She has worked on a variety of project types with a recent focus on residential projects. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
PROJECT MANAGEMENT
Alison was an owner's project manager on the construction of mid-rise steel frame commercial and residential properties in Boston, Massachusetts inthe 1980's. As a project manager she was responsible for coordination with public and private agencies, contract administration with construction managers and general contractors, and overall project and architectural administration. She was also a project manager for The Codman Company's Asset Recovery Program and coordinated property assessment, construction management and the completion of bank-owned properties to facilitate their sale.
TEACHING
Alison
is an adjunct faculty member at Santa Rosa Junior College, one of
California's most renowned community colleges. She Began teahing in 1992 and currently teaches
construction project organization and management in the architecture
and construction program. The majority of her students are working in the trades.
WRITING AND PUBLISHING
As the founder and principal of Off the Ground Books in San Francisco, Alison is intimately involved in the writing and production of technical books. Her first book, an introductory text on Construction Project Management has been used by her students for several years and will be available for general distribution in 2010. Several other titles on construction are currently in development.
GREEN TECHNOLOGY
Alison was on the staff of the Farallones Institute in Occidental, California from 1975-1980. A small, land-based. research and educational organization working on passive solar heating and construction, waste reuse and disposal, and small-scale, intensive agriculture, Farallones was one of the early leaders in the study and application of alternative technologies and received wide recognition for its efforts to study and implement sustainable, non-fossil fuel based technologies. She was the Education Program Director from 1975-1977 and managed on-site training programs and the development of technical reports on the Institute's areas of concern. From 1977-1980 she was the Executive Director, responsible for program development, budgeting and fund-raising, site planning and construction management, and strategic planning. She is currently a member of the Redwood Empire chapter of the US Green Building Council.
YOUTH TRAINING AND ADVOCACY 






Alison has extensive experience in youth training and advocacy. As the Contract Manager and Development Director for the Marin Conservation Corps she was involved in contract development and management including expansion
of fee-for service contracts, estimating and budgeting, project
management, and coordination with sponsors and clients. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Conservation Corps North Bay and is a juvenile mediator with Recourse Mediation, a youth diversion program in Santa Rosa. She is a former licensed foster parent and provided respite care for families with young children.
